"UB40 concerts have always been touching and impressive. ARMY, their fans, and everyone who came to see their performances must have felt why UB40 concerts are famous. He was kind to ARMY and everyone who came to see UB40 performances, and they are a great fandom that strives to have a good influence on UB40, whom they love. UB40 knows all of that and always does their best, touching and feeling their sincerity, making the audience feel sincere about how much they love us now. Everyone must have been impressed by UB40 concerts, always the best."
UB40 then and now - Wow!
I first saw UB40 in concert when I was a student at the University of Virginia in 1989. I loved that concert, and the concert this past Sunday showed that they still have all of the talent, energy and genuine appreciation for their audience that they brought to the stage back then. The venue in Philadelphia was much more intimate than the arena where I saw them the first time or the sites in their concert DVDs. When I first arrived at the Electric Factory, I wondered if the smaller size would decrease some of UB40's energy level - I was wrong. They brought all the excitement of a breakout band, and that combined with the proximity of the band to the audience made it seem as if they stopped by to play for a gathering of old friends. I thought maybe nostalgia could have enhanced my 2nd UB40 concert, however, my wife and our two high school aged daughters were also amazed and thrilled by the experience.
Great!
No Ali, no way!
The Mercury Ballroom is a small, nice enough place to see the acts up close and personal. When the DJ came out to warm up crowd, I was only wanting to get it over so as to get on with UB40. It turns out that the DJ played more popular songs in his short time than did UB40 did in over an hour. When UB40 came out and I saw that the singer was not Ali, but his less talented brother Duncan, I immediately felt duped. They played one known song then admittedly said they were going to play all new songs. They even had the bongo player sing multiple unknown songs and you couldn't even understand most of his lyrics. After an hour, they had played three songs from their greatest hits album. Pretty awful since this was supposed to be celebrating 40 years of the band. We left early, when my wife who was very excited to see Ali, decided she had had enough. I believe the non-UB40 rappers segment was finally the last straw.
When we got home, I saw that UB40 with Ali had played in Florida the night before. His setlist was full of the hits. I sure wish we hadn't been duped into going to see this waste of time and money.
Excellent concert but disappointing pricing
We were glad to be in town for this concert and had a great time but it started off rocky. I paid for VIP but did not get into the VIP area. They told me my tickets only entitled me to some merchandise which I’d get later by mail. If I knew that, I would have skipped the merchandise since we ended up in general area. Ended up paying $150 Canadian each person and no access to VIP area. Closer to the date, the ticket prices dropped by half. That’s just salt to the wound. I had booked VIP hoping to stay more isolated from crowd due to medical condition.
